Pre & Post Tan Care

Pre-Tan Tips

  • To ensure a freshly applied spray tan will not rub off, wear loose-fitting clothing, such as a T-shirt dress and flip flops. Avoid denim, yoga pants, and bras.

  • Exfoliating or shaving several hours ahead of your appointment gives your pores time to close and avoid discoloration. Use oil-free exfoliants.

If your skin is wet and your pores are exposed, the spray tan formula will not stick to your skin properly, leaving you with a patchy, discolored tan. Finish off your shower with a cold rinse to close your pores

  • Come to your appointment with clean skin. Moisturizers and makeup are likely to prevent the spray tan formula from sticking to your skin.

  • Be sure to take care of all beauty services, such as waxing, facials, and massages before your appointment. Getting these services done right after your spray tan appointment will have your gorgeous tan ruined.

  • Your skin needs time to fully absorb the spray tan. If you are getting sprayed for a big event, give your body 2-3 days to adjust to the tan to ensure your skin glows in the spotlight.

Post-Tan Tips

  • Tight clothing, such as denim, yoga pants, socks, and bras will most likely rub against your skin and remove your spray tan. Don’t wear socks, and stick to sandals or flip-flops for as long as possible.

  • When you’re ready to get rid of your tan, use a gentle exfoliant or exfoliating mitt to prep your skin for your next sunless tan.

  • This includes showering, working out, moisturizing, and liquid foundations on the skin. Give your skin the time it needs to absorb the spray tan.

  • Wait four to eight hours after your appointment to take a shower. Shower times will vary based on the solution used at the appointment. We will determine your post-shower time at the appointment. Do not wait more than 24 hours. Your first shower should be a quick rinse. Use warm water and no body washes when you shower. Avoid harsh scrubbing and hot water, and pat yourself dry. Keep your hair away from water for at least eight hours.

  • Moisturize in the morning and evening with an oil-free paraben-free, and fragrance-free moisturizer. We recommend using Lubriderm or another, oil-free lotion.

  • Hot water and steam will cause your skin to loosen its hold on the spray tan.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals, such as chlorine in pools or hot tubs, products containing acids, massages, fashion tape, and bandages.

  • Try not to cross your legs or arms and minimize skin-to-skin contact.

Q&A

  • Yes, topical sunless tanning products are generally considered safe alternatives to the sun. Some healthcare providers encourage women to wait until after the first trimester, just to play it safe. If you are pregnant I provide nose filters to reduce inhaling the tanning spray.

DHA has been used in cosmetics since 1960 and no problems have been reported.

Keep in mind when pregnancy hormones are very active and skin can be sensitive. I use a pH balance spray beforehand and a patch test can be done to test your skin.
